Alps
Alps Origin and Meaning
With other mountainous names on the rise, such as Everest, Summit, and Monty, Alps could be a cool, rugged option and serve as an alternative for Ace, Alvin, or Atlas.
Alps is the name of one of the largest mountain systems, stretching across Europe from the coast of France, through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany and Austria, into Slovenia. Its name is of Latin origin, from the word Alpes, though the exact source of this is contested.
On one hand, it might come from albus, meaning white, from the Greek Goddess, Alphito, whose name means "white flour", or from the name of the river god Alpheus whose name means "whitish". On the other hand, it could come from alb meaning "hill", though this thought to be less likely.
Currently, Alps doesn't make the US stats, so it would be a pioneering and adventurous choice for a baby today. And for those who like the idea of it, but not the risk associated with a brand new name, then perhaps Alphonse with the nickname Alps might be a compromise.
