Italus Origin and Meaning
The name Italus is a boy's name meaning "of Italy".
A sunny and intriguing sounding name, Italus was a figure in Roman mythology, notably the father of Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome. In the legends, Italy was named after him, however, it has been suggested that Italus was in fact named for the region. The region in turn could have borrowed its name from the word Víteliú from the now extinct Oscan language, possibly giving it the meaning "land of the bulls".
While Italus has yet to be discovered, Italy has been on the rise for girls and recently appeared in the US stats for boys for the first time. Italian form Italo is also occasionally used, in both the US and more notably, Brazil.
