Milah

MEE-luh
Variation of Mila or diminutive of Jamilah Kamilah
"gracious, dear; beautiful; perfect, complete"

Milah Origin and Meaning

The name Milah is a girl's name meaning "gracious, dear; beautiful; perfect, complete".

Popular Mila is an international gem, trending across the States and throughout Europe. The similar though less popular Milah has seen increased use on the back of this, however, this slightly longer variant might have even more global possibilities.

Mila - and therefore Milah - can be derived from the Slavic element milŭ meaning "dear" or "gracious", or as a short form of Emilia, Amelia, or Camila. The addition of the -h at the end is familiar in English speaking countries, where classics like Sarah and Leah have likely inspired Norah, Ariah and Mylah.

Alternatively, Milah also has its roots in Arabic, as a diminutive form of Jamilah, meaning "beautiful", Kamilah, meaning "complete", or similar, in turn, expanding its appeal and its usage.

Despite this, Milah does rank significantly behind Mila and has dipped up and down in terms of popularity over the last decade. As of 2023, it was given to around 147 girls -- making it 40 times less popular than Mila.
