August Berrybabes: Opal Florentine and Augustine Murphy

August Berrybabes: Opal Florentine and Augustine Murphy

By Linda Rosenkrantz

So what were the names your sister and brother berries selected for their August babes?

First among these August baby names were two Owens, a name that seems headed towards the top, and two paths to the nickname GusAugustine and Magnus. Great combos like Opal Florentine and Augustine Murphy. And two families that welcomed their eighth child!

Here’s the complete list.

Girls

Ayiya Joy, sister of Evander Mark, Gabriel Lee and Eliza Mae

Before we conceived I wanted a girl named Aviva (Hebrew for springtime and new life), but the window for a spring baby came and went.  When I realized we were having a late summer baby, I didn’t feel right naming her Aviva. I was reading through the gospel of John…and found Aviyah meaning Yehovah is my father.  I looked up the name and discovered it is unisex and most commonly used for girls today…”

Birdie Odeya, sister of 7 siblings

Birdie is after my mom who goes by Birdie, but is actually named Roberta. Odeya /Oh-day-ah) is a Hebrew name we found that means give thanks to God, since we thought she might have health complications but ended up being fine”

Delilah Elizabeth Rue

“….chose Delilah…because her early arrival was as her names suggests, a delightful surprise. Elizabeth followed through as a middle to honour my late grandmother…(and, less sweetly, the Lana del Rey song she was conceived to). Rue actually does honour my grandmother as well, since she used to keep pots and pots of the stuff in her garden, though we both loved the Hunger Games connection. Suzanne CollinsRue was such a sweet, brave character that we hope our little girl can look up to.”

Julia June Elizabeth

Julia is a name I’ve loved since I was a child and luckily DH loved it too.  June is for her great grandmother and Elizabeth is for her grandma and auntie.  She’s currently going by the nickname JJ.”

Mabel Josephine, sister of Felix

Opal Florentine. sister of Lyda Maeve

Wanda Soleil, sister of May Aurora

“We decided on Soleil because we like adding something about our world to our daughter’s name.”

Boys

Augustine Murphy (Gus), brother of Francesca Claire (Frankie)

Hugo Frederick, brother of Eli Anthony and Oscar Nicholas

Magnus George, (Gus), brother of Charles Alexander (Charlie), Elizabeth Coralie (Libby) and Eleanor Iris (Nora)

Malcolm Christopher Wallace, brother of Lennox Andrew Michael

Marshall Oscar (Mars), brother of Mia Lynn

Oliver Brett, brother of Ivy

…for a few hours he was almost an Archer. In the end we went with Oliver because we liked the nature connection between his name and his big sister’s name—Ivy.  And hearing Ivy say, “I luff you Ollie” literally is the cutest thing ever!”

Owen Del, brother of Lucas Samuel

Owen is a name we’d recently discussed and decided it seemed right once we saw him (other options were Alex and Calvin).  Del is a family name, after my mother Lyndel.”

Owen Shepherd

“My husband adores the meaning, ‘young warrior’ and I love the connection to my Welsh heritage. Also, my Grandpa passed away in June and his name was Alwyn; it’s not an honor name, but Owen’s name reminds me of Grandpa just the same.  We picked Shepherd for its ’cool factor’. But also love the Biblical connection to Jesus.”

Thomas Gregory, brother of 7 siblings
