Top Nameberry Names Reveal Future Trends
Have you ever taken a tour of the most popular names on Nameberry?
We’re not talking about the official Top 1000 — although it turns out that Berries love Oliver and Olivia, Leo and Luna just as much as the rest of us. No, the Nameberry Top 1000 reveals which names are getting the most attention from our site visitors in (almost) real time.
It’s a great tool for predicting which baby names are destined for future greatness, as well as the new name trends we could see filling kindergarten rosters in the years to come.
In total, 49 girl names and 51 boy names feature in the current Nameberry Top 100 which don’t make the Top 100 in the US. Some, like Freya, Poppy and Sienna for girls and Charlie, Theo and Oscar for boys, are already popular elsewhere in the English-speaking world — notably the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
Others rank highly for other reasons. Archie (#3) saw a big spike in pageviews last year after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose it for their son. And Posie (#57) ranked at #1 for the first quarter of 2019 after vloggers Cole and Savannah LaBrant gave it to their second daughter.
Here are the top Nameberry names we’re watching for 2020 and beyond!
Nameberry’s Top “Sweet Spot” Baby Names
What is a “sweet spot” name? Familiar, but not widely used. Traditional, but not boring. Stylish, but not too trendy or too overblown.
All of the names on the lists below currently rank inside the US Top 1000, but below the #300 mark. They have bags of charm and character, but remain relatively under the radar… for now.
But be warned: these names all feature in the Top 100 (girls) or the Top 120 (boys) here on Nameberry. We predict a bright future ahead
Nameberry’s Top Unique Baby Names
Unique baby names are commonly defined as those that rank outside of the official US Top 1000. All of the names below fit the bill, but they all feature in — or just outside of — the Top 200 here on Nameberry.
These quirky choices showcase some of the hottest trends to watch right now: from edgy vintage names like Agnes and Rufus, to international gems like Emrys and Elodie, to ancient and mythological names like Caius and Hermione.
Many of these names feel a lot more elaborate than the short and sweet picks currently dominating international popularity charts. We predict a swing back in that direction — at least on the part of the most adventurous baby namers — in the years ahead.
Buried Treasures at the Bottom of the Nameberry List
“But you’ve listed all of my favorite names!”
Never fear! If you’re worried that your longtime baby name loves might be on the brink of a big popularity boom, there is some good news. The lists below feature names that rank both outside of the US Top 1000 and at the very bottom of the Nameberry popularity list — between #900 and #1000.
Despite feeling bang on trend and (we think) eminently wearable, these hidden gems don’t look set to storm up the popularity charts any time soon. Which are your favorites?
