Solitaire Origin and Meaning
The name Solitaire is a boy's name meaning "solitary, alone; a single jewel in a piece of jewelry".
Derived from the French word for "alone", Solitaire could have potential as a bold word name, thanks to its use on a character in the James Bond franchise and its similarity to the names Sol, Solomon, and Salvatore. While some may be put off by the potential loneliness in the meaning, others might associate it with independence instead .
Also used to refer to a card game played alone, to a single gem (often a diamond) in a piece of jewelry, and to a type of bird, the name has only ever appeared in the US rankings twice, once in 1980 and again in 1981, when it was given to 11 girls. It has yet to appear in the charts for boys.
