Aasiyah Origin and Meaning
The name Aasiyah is a girl's name meaning "pensive, wistful, melancholic".
Aasiyah is an alternative spelling of Asiya and was a fast rising name in the UK in 2022. Made familiar perhaps by its similarity to the well-known Aaliyah, Aasiyah jumped up more than 100 places on the charts, joining Asiya and Asiyah as popular options.
In Islamic tradition, Asiya was the wife of Pharaoh and the adoptive mother of Moses. She is celebrated as an exemplar woman for accepting monotheism and going against her husband's beliefs in order to be faithful to Allah. Some scholars believe that Moses went on to name the continent of Asia in her honor.
