Seena
Seena Origin and Meaning
Simple, succinct, and sweet, Seena is the anglicized form of the Scandinavian Signe or the Gaelic Síne.
From its Scandinavian origins, it derives from the Old Norse name Signý, meaning "new victory". Signe is the modernized form, and Seena takes inspiration from the Danish pronunciation of the name. It was notably borne by silent film actress Seena Owen, who was convinced to change her name to a more phonetic spelling after she started her career in acting.
From its Irish origins, it is a form of Síne, the Gaelic variation of Jeanne or Jane. Pronounced SHEE-nuh, it is usually anglicized as Sheena, however Seena may be a corruption — or a playful nickname — based on mispronunciation.
Seena might also be considered a diminutive of Thomasina, Rosina, or similar.
