200+ Unique and Amazing Nature Names

200+ Unique and Amazing Nature Names

Nature names are a perennial favorite with parents, especially for girls. Flower, tree and gemstone names like Violet, Willow and Ruby rank among the most popular baby names.

More recently, we've seen the rise of more names inspired by geography, the heavens, and fresh birds and animals — such as River, Sky, and Wren. Many of them — including these examples — are unisex names given to both boys and girls.

One great thing about nature names? The possibilities are as endless and varied as the natural world itself. Even if you want a name that hardly anyone is using, it could be something recognizable like Berry or Harvest, or a truly unique choice like Rudbeckia or Sulfur.

Even if this isn't your style for everyday use, many of these would make fantastic middle names. We've seen a lot of parents pick wild options like Fox, Bear, or even something rarer like Wildflower (callback to Cameron Diaz) to lift a more traditional first name.

Here are all the nature names given as first names to under 200 boys or girls in the US in 2023. We've limited it to names that are words in English — though of course there are many more from other languages, not to mention spelling variations like Raine and Tyger!
