I am Irish and I love Irish names. I am most likely to use all these names. I am aware that there are more girl names than boys, but I will continue to add to this list!
- Beibhinn
Origin:
IrishMeaning:
"white or fair lady"Description:
An important name in Irish myth, belonging to a beautiful giantess who was both mother and wife of Brian Boru. It is usually Anglicized as the phonetic Bevin, but also as Vivian.
- Blaithin
- Cathriona
- Damien
Origin:
French from GreekMeaning:
"to tame, subdue"Description:
Converting Damian to Damien – or Julian to Julien or Lucian to Lucien – adds a certain je ne sais quoi to names. But most people in English speaking areas will still pronounce this the same as the -an ending form. The French pronunciation is more like "dah-mee-u(n)".
- Michael
Origin:
HebrewMeaning:
"who is like God?"Description:
Michael was the Number 1 American boys' name for almost half a century. While Michael has moved out of the Top 10 baby boy names, it's still widely used.
- Moncha
- Padraig
Origin:
IrishMeaning:
"patrician, noble"Description:
Parents of Irish heritage are increasingly looking for more authentic Gaelic names, and this is a native spin on Patrick. Pronunciation will be confusing for many Americans, though: It's POR-rick. Golf champ Padraig Harrington has brought it into the sports spotlight.
- Shauna
Origin:
HebrewMeaning:
"God is gracious"Description:
More modern options: Shaw, Shay, or even Sean.
