Caelum
Caelum Origin and Meaning
A constellation name that could have broad appeal beyond astronomers and astrophysicists, Caelum blends the sounds of Scottish Callum and modern Caden. It comes from the Latin caelum meaning "heaven, sky", giving it a subtle spiritual air and linking it to the names Celia, Cielo, and Ciel.
Rarely used before the 2000s, Caelum has quietly been rising in the US, alongside other astronomy-related choices like Orion. Given to around 60 boys in a recent year, it is three times more popular than a decade ago.
As a constellation, Caelum is also known as "the Chisel", while as a name, it may have gained more exposure after it appeared in both a Roblox spin off game in 2023 and in a Final Fantasy game in 2016. A real life notable bearer is rugby player Caelum Jordan.
Despite its similarity to Callum, it is worth noting that Caelum is not etymologically related to the Scottish name. Equally important to note, in English, Caelum is pronounced with a KAY sound, while in Latin, it would be pronounced with KIE at the beginning.
