Jam
Jam Origin and Meaning
Jam might feel like a sweet and playful nickname choice — and it can be just that — but it is also a multicultural choice that has its roots in Persian mythology and a variety of different names.
From its Persian roots, Jam comes from the ancient Avestan Yima or the Sanskrit Yama, both of which mean "twin". It was borne by a revered and mythological king of Persia's golden age, also known as Jamshid, combining his given name with an honorific meaning "shining". Jam also appears in Turkish as Cem (JEHM).
Alternatively, Jam is a nickname style name, derived from the popular Biblical classics, James and Benjamin, meaning "the supplanter" and "son of the right hand" respectively. It also comes from the Arabic Jamal or Jamil, meaning "beautiful", along with their African American derivatives, like Jamar, Jamari, and Jamarion.
Of course, it might also be seen as an English word name, associated with both the sweet spread made from boiling fruit and sugar and with playing improvised music.
