Josue
Josue Origin and Meaning
Josue - usually written as Josué - is a French, Spanish, and Portuguese variation of Joshua that has been in the US Top 300 since 1990 and in the Top 1000 since the 70s. While it remains popular in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico, in its native Spain, France, and Portugal, it has fallen slightly out of style.
Given to 1100 boys in the US each year, notable Josues include footballers Josué Martinez, Josué Pesqueira and Josué Wildor Paul and baseballer, Josue De Paula.
With its multiple origins, Josue can be pronounced in several different ways. Spanish speakers say it as ho-zway - similar to the popular Jose - while in Portuguese, it would be more like zhoo-zway and in French it would be zhaw-zhee or zhaw-zoo depending on the region.
