Xolotl Origin and Meaning
The name Xolotl is a boy's name .
A name from Aztec mythology, Xolotl was the God of fire and lightning. He is depicted as a dog-headed man who guided the dead towards Mictlan (the Aztec underworld). The god of twins (and a twin himself), he was also god of monsters, death, sickness and misfortune. He is a significant figure in mythology, responsible for guiding the sun through the underworld each night.
Xolotl gives his name to the species of aquatic salamander, the axolotl, which translates to "water dog". Rarely used as a given name, it has been used very occasionally in Mexico, though it is (only slightly) more likely to appear as a surname.
