Variation of Arya, Sanskrit
"noble"

Aarya Origin and Meaning

The name Aarya is a girl's name meaning "noble".

Arya has become a popular name thanks to the young heroine of Game of Thrones and because of the rise of similar Aria too. Now, variation Aarya has risen up the charts, making the Top 600 in the UK.

Aarya made a brief appearance in the US charts too, and while 2023 saw it drop just below the Top 1000, it is still given to nearly 240 girls - and a small handful of boys, due to its use as an exclusively masculine name in Iran and as a unisex name in India.

While the double-A beginning might seem unusual to English speakers - though given the popularity of Aaliyah and Aaron, it shouldn't feel too confusing - this form is familiar in India. Used for the titular character in the Indian crime-thriller TV show Aarya, another notable namesake is actor and singer Aarya Ambekar.
