Aelwen Origin and Meaning
The name Aelwen is a girl's name meaning "white brow".
Aelwen was first used in the revival of native Welsh names in the nineteenth century. It is occasionally used in Wales, but has not made the charts there for at least 20 years.
If more parents knew this name, it could prove quite popular. It sounds like a mash-up of Isla and Elowen, both of which are rising fast, and its "ae" spelling gives it a somewhat fantasy/alternative look to non-Welsh speakers.
It is part of several Welsh names for birds, such as llinos goch aelwen (white-browed rosefinch).
