Hermila Origin and Meaning
The name Hermila is a girl's name meaning "messenger".
Hermila stems from the Greek name Hermes, though in the contemporary world it would be considered one of the Spanish names for girls.
One notable bearer, who certainly was a messenger with a profound message, was Hermila Galindo. Galindo was a Mexican feminist who was ahead of her time on so many fronts: Not only did she advocate for women’s suffrage, she championed sex education in schools, divorce rights, and the respect of women in society (she was a staunch critic of the Catholic church due to its views on women and morality). When she stood for parliament she actually won the majority of votes but was not allowed to take her seat due to the law preventing women from taking government office.
