Sweet and confident in sound, Marikit is a Tagalog name, used in the Philippines. According to Filipino legend, the town Marikina was named after a woman called Marikit who became suddenly aware of her own beauty having seen her reflection in the river. So engrossed in her reflection, she failed to notice the gathering storm clouds and when the rain came, it was too late, she slipped into the river and drowned. The people of the town named the river Marikit ka na "you are already beautiful" in her memory.

Borne by Filipina-Australian artist, Marikit Santiago, Marikit is also the name of a hit song by Juan Caoile and Kyle Caplis.
