Metta Origin and Meaning

The name Metta is a girl's name meaning "pearl".

Metta -- or Mette or Meta -- is an international short form of the classic Margaret, ranking in the Swedish Top 100 but never heard here. There were fewer than five baby girls given any spelling of this name in the US last year.

While Metta is a simple, attractive name that can make an original honor name for an ancestral Margaret, it may well be too reminiscent of the Facebook/Instagram parent company Meta and the overused term for something that refers to itself. Certainly, jokes on the order of "You're so meta" would proliferate.
