Nunu
Nunu Origin and Meaning
A sweet sounding but distinctive Georgian name, Nunu has a number of possible origins. It could be related to the Egyptian God, Nu, whose name means "primeval water", or it could derive from the Georgian word, nunua meaning "wine".
Alternatively, it could be a form of Nunna, itself a variation of Nino and Ninos, which eventually link back to the city of Nineveh, whose name could mean "fish". There's also the possibility it is linked to the Armenian name Nunufar meaning "water lily", or that it is a Georgian form of Nonna, originating from the Greek Nonnos, which could mean "monk" or "tutor".
The name might also be used as a nickname for a whole host of names, including Nuryanda, Nuray, Nur, Neomi, Nuh, Annunziata, Anushka, Fionnuala, and Emanuela.
Returning to its Georgian roots, Nunu was used by Aleksandre Qazbegi in his 1882 novel The Patricide, now considered a Georgian classic. Nunuka is an diminutive of Nunu.
