Two Syllable Names for Girls

Larry Hernandez is at it again — the reality TV star known for his show Larrymania has successfully popularized each of his three daughters' names. He and Kenia Ontiveros created totally new names for their girls — Daleyza, Dalary, and Dalett, who was born in May 2020.

Popular in Azerbaijan, Milay is a name of uncertain origin. In Malagasy, it is the word for "need", while in Urdu, it translates to "found". Other sources suggest it is similar to the name Nilay - meaning "moon of the Nile". In that case, it would be comprised of the Turkish element ay, meaning "moon" and "Mil" which could refer to the Turkish province of Milas (or similar). A more literal translation could even be from Mil meaning "shaft", "axle" or "tree" combined with "moon".

Combining the sounds of popular Haley or Hallie with the trendy Lyn ending, Halyn was given to around a dozen baby girls in the US last year.

Prudence is rising again for baby girls. Prudent feels like a more modern spin, even though it too has a Puritan history. Plus, it still gets you to that cute nickname Pru.

A variant of Madden or Madigan, cool surnames which ultimately derive from the Irish Gaelic word for "dog".
