A name that feels both spiritual and trendy, Trinity surged up the charts in the early 2000s, following the release of The Matrix. In just two years, it made an impressive jump from the latter end of the charts to the US Top 100, where it remained for more than a decade. 
 A word name that literally means "triad" or "a group of three", it is heavily associated with the Christian belief that God is three separate entities, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, but is still a single Godhead. Known as the Holy Trinity, this religious aspect brought the name into use in the 20th century. 
 
In The Matrix, the name is used to suggest a parallel between the character and God and to create a sense of mystery and power around her. Interestingly, however, the movie actually made Trinity feel more usable, familiar, and cool as a name option. 
 
For 12 years, Trinity appeared in the US Top 100, however, it has been in decline since 2012, dropping out of the UK charts in 2020 and disappearing from New Zealand's rankings. Nevertheless, it remains in the US Top 500, and was given to nearly 900 girls in 2023. 
 
What does the future hold for Trinity? It's religious aspects may well keep it in use for years to come and with Genesis in the Top 100, and other religious word choices like Chosen and Halo rising up the charts, it might just have a resurgence in the future.
