Messiah Origin and Meaning

The name Messiah is a boy's name of Aramaic origin meaning "expected savior or deliverer".

A handful of years ago, a judge in Tennessee ruled that parents could not name their son Messiah, "because there's only one." That decision has since been overturned and the name no longer looks out of place besides the growing number of Saints and Chosens.

In fact, Messiah is such a popular name now that it was given to around 1900 baby boys in the US in the last year, along with a handful of baby girls. It's one of a large and ever-growing group of names with bold, religious and exalted meanings, ranging from Reign and King to Creed and Jericho.
