Jadis Origin and Meaning
The name Jadis is a girl's name meaning "long ago or magic, witch".
Queen Jadis, also known as The White Witch, is the main villain in The Chronicles of Narnia. She is the force responsible for freezing Narnia and creating the Hundred Year Winter.
Author C.S. Lewis may have based the name on both its etymological derivations, which basically mean a magic witch from long ago.
Although Jadis might be considered a purely literary name, it was used for about a dozen baby girls in the US last year.
